Adding your experience and insight while connecting with others in the province doing the work towards accessibility will further strengthen the Accessible BC Act.

Know the Law:

Learn About Your Committee:

  • Some organizations have agreed to partner into a joint committee through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
  • Some organizations have chosen to focus their initial efforts internally so that they can better serve those externally in the future
  • Most committees have created a Terms of Reference (TOR) that outlines how they operate

Committee Member(s) from Within Your Organization:

  • Co-lead committee meetings
  • Orient committee members
  • Present committee advice to Council/Leadership team
  • Liaise with organizations and develop networks
  • Co-develop accessibility plan
  • Share public feedback with committee
  • Solicit public feedback about accessibility gaps and share these with accessibility committee

Committee Members with Disabilities:

  • Co-develop the plan
  • Advise organization about barriers and actions to address barriers
  • Seek accessibility public feedback
  • Assist with ongoing committee recruitment
  • Search for funding opportunities to support accessibility initiatives
