Spring updates
May 6, 2025
Greetings from the Accessible Organizations Project team. As spring is upon us, we have some updates to share with the community.
The work towards a barrier free BC continues, and we have been creating resources to support the public sector and enhance capacity and engagement. Please read on for more information.
ACCESSIBILITY WINS! – AN INTERACTIVE MAP
We are excited to share a new interactive map on the Accessibility Hub website called Accessibility Wins.
Members of the public —including but not limited to the disability community, members of accessibility committees, and public sector organizations— can share photos and stories from across BC of accessibility done right. Share your success stories to inspire everyone! It may be a community centre, or library, school, or any public space that has done the work of meeting the Accessible BC Act and removed barriers to create a more inclusive BC.
Please share widely with your networks so that the interactive map can be populated and let us know what you think.
HONORARIA GUIDELINES
We have been hearing from the public sector that more clarity about honoraria for committee members would be helpful. We believe lived experience is expertise and we encourage dignified compensation for committee members. The honoraria guidelines have been posted to the Accessibility Hub blog and on the Best Practices page.
STAY TUNED FOR E-LEARNING
A robust e-learning is almost ready for launch! These free e-learning modules have been developed to assist public sector organizations to host effective accessibility committees and provide education on how to be an effective committee member. The Effective Accessibility Committees e-learning is currently undergoing accessibility testing and there will be a link on the Learning page in May. Stay tuned for a webinar launch in the late spring.
