New Municipal Recreation Guide

Active Living Alliance for Canadians with a Disability recently shared a robust municipal recreation guide for local governments.  

As described on their website, this resource provides how-to practices for staff at all levels in municipal recreation departments to make sure people with disabilities are included in their programs and activities.  

The work towards meeting the requirements of the Accessible BC Act continues and this guide offers vital information to inform accessibility plans and feedback mechanisms. Accessibility committee members may also find it useful.  

While the focus is on municipal recreation departments, this is valuable information that can benefit the wider public sector.  

Guidelines include information on inclusive programming, recommendations on how to set up a system to have an inclusive workplace culture and management, and accessibility in the built environment.
